Gutter Repair

Four things commonly go wrong with gutters:

1. They weren't installed correctly in the first place.

2. They weren't cleaned or maintained properly.

3. Storms can rip them from their fasteners, causing them to sag or not function properly (or both)

4. Over time they get old and worn out, as all systems in your home do.

Leaky or broken gutters can lead to leaky roofs and damaged fascia, which is why Landmark Roofing offers gutter repair to homeowners throughout the Peoria area.

How do you fix leaky gutters?

Contrary to popular belief we do not have to replace gutters just to repair them. Often, we can refasten the gutters to get them flush with your fascia board and overhang again, then patch and caulk small holes and leaks.  We can do that with a combination of roofing cement and a metal patch, along with a generous application of a sealant to fix troubles pots along the seams.

While we're at it, we clean out all the debris make sure the gutters let water flow freely during the next rainstorm.

When should gutters be repaired instead of replaced?

When we recommend a repair, the first thing we look at is the gutter type and the age of the gutters. Vinyl gutters only last 5 to 7 years, whereas seamless aluminum gutters can last for 20 to 30 years. If your gutters are older than their allotted lifespan we'll generally recommend replacing your gutters.

Next we look at the type of damage. If the problem is localized and small then a repair usually is the right call. If you have huge cracks or bends, then a full gutter replacement is probably needed. We also look for rusty sections, sagging gutters, or screws that won't stay put.

How much does it cost to repair gutters?

It depends on the repair. Sometimes a repair costs as little as $90. Sometimes it can cost over $1000. It all depends on what's wrong with your gutters and what needs to be done to correct them.

Whatever you pay is likely to be worth the price. Gutters are a perpetually underrated system. People don't realize just how important gutters are, so they skimp and take half measures that end up being more expensive in the long run.

When gutters can't shed water from your home, water ends up going all kinds of places where it can do a great deal of damage. It can rot your soffit and fascia, work its way under your shingles or behind your siding and into your home, leading to all kinds of rot, insects, and mold.  On the exterior it can pool up against your foundation and easily do five figures worth of damage. It can rot window frames and door jambs, destroy your landscaping, and crack your driveway.
